Real people’s stories of life beyond school

Sarah D.

Sarah grew up in Alexandria, VA, where she attended the prestigious Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. After graduating from high school in 2006, Sarah moved up north to study at Bates College. At Bates, she was able to design her own major in the social sciences, which she termed “Global Studies of Social Justice.” Sarah advocated extensively for the area’s immigrant and refugee population while in college, and following her graduation from Bates in 2010, she accepted a liason position working with immigrants through Catholic Charities Maine Refugee and Immigration Services.
