Jumped into college too soon

“One thing that I sort of knew inside is that you don’t need to go straight to college. I had initially planned not to go to college for a year. I was going to do a study abroad program where I went to a high school in another country, but my parents thought it was a little backwards to be going back to high school after graduating. So I jumped straight into college and I think that’s why I really started to flounder in where I wanted to be and what I wanted to do. If I had taken a step back before going and taken some time off, I think I would have had a much better idea of where I wanted to be and what I wanted to do. Going into college at 18 years old, you have a sense of what you think might be fun and what could make you a good paycheck, but other than that you don’t really know much because your real life experience is so limited that you could jump on any bandwagon and think that that might be your best choice. Then when you get there you really start to think, Am I making the right choice?”
